Description
The City of Terrace Fire Department is actively seeking a full-time firefighter with a strong sense of work ethic and a high level of commitment to public and personnel safety. The City of Terrace Fire Department takes pride in serving our community and ensuring the safety of the residents’.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide emergency response of equipment and personnel as required by 911 Dispatch;
- Perform fire suppression;
- Perform rescue/hazardous material response;
- Auto extrication;
- Provide emergency medical care;
- Assist with public fire education and fire prevention programs;
- Undertake fire inspection activities;
- Minor maintenance of apparatus, small equipment, building and
Minimum Qualifications
- Canadian Citizen; or Landed Immigrant with legal entitlement to work in Canada;
- High School graduation or equivalent (certificate required);
- Completion of NFPA 1001 Firefighter 1 & 2 (IFSAC OR PRO-BOARD accredited) standard;
- A valid BC Emergency Medical Assistants Licensing Board EMR or PCP License;
- Minimum two years of accumulated work experience after high school;
- Career or Volunteer firefighting experience;
- Valid C. Driver’s License, Class 5 with air brakes endorsement;
- No summary conviction for a criminal offence related to the job of a fire fighter;
- Suitable for the role of Firefighter;
- Demonstrated commitment to a fit and healthy lifestyle;
- Successful completion of a medical and hearing assessment;
- Commitment to personal development;
- Computer skills – basic knowledge and ability to operate a personal computer;
- The ability to deal effectively and courteously with co-workers and the public;
Additional Information
All shortlisted candidates will:
- Be responsible for all travel cost throughout the recruitment process;
- Participate in testing conducted in Terrace BC over 2 consecutive days - candidates will be emailed directly with the assigned dates;
- Provide a current 3-year Driver’s Abstract;
- Complete a criminal records check including vulnerable sector check;
- Provide proof of education and certifications;
- Complete a physical fitness evaluation;
- Complete a practical fire skills evaluation (follows NFPA 1001 standard);
- Complete a written firefighter aptitude
