Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform fire suppression activities
- Assist at medical incidents
- Conduct fire inspections
- Provide fire prevention education
- Participate in community initiatives
- Work with communications professionals within the dispatch centre
- Complete administrative reporting
- Perform other related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
- Legally entitled to work in Canada (You must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident/Landed Immigrant)
- Grade 12 completion or equivalent
- Two years or more of accumulated work experience after high school completion
- Valid Class 3 or Class 1 Driver's License with air brake endorsement or equivalent for vehicles with more than two axles (automatic transmission is accepted) and a safe driving record
- A current BC EMA Licensing Board First Responder License or higher level of EMA License (EMR, PCP, ACP). OFA licensing is not accepted
- Fluency in English (written and verbal)
- Physically and psychologically suitable for the position of firefighter (Meets NFPA 1582)
- Willing to work 24 hour shifts, day shifts, night shifts, weekends and holidays including extra shifts as required
- Must live within Metro Vancouver or the Fraser Valley Regional District, no further east than Hope, no further north of Squamish, no further south than the USA border and no further west than the Metro Vancouver coast line, to be available for short term emergency call out
- Successful completion of the Surrey Fire Service Basic Firefighting Knowledge Course or equivalent (equivalency is considered to be applicants with NFPA 1001, Level 1 or Level 2 IFSAC or ProBoard certifications)
Preferred Qualifications
- Participation in a Recruit Orientation Workshop
- 30 post-secondary institution credits OR one year minimum in an apprenticeship program (transcripts required) OR Diploma OR Degree or higher or red seal certification
- Previous work experience in the hospitality industry (food service)
- Previous work experience in Police, Fire, Health Care (one year minimum)
- Previous work experience in Wildfire Service, Coast Guard, Lifeguarding
- Previous work experience in Military or Search Rescue
- Previous work with a non-profit organization
- Experience in team-oriented, sports or organizations
- Sport coaching or instructional qualification
- Computer literacy (ranging from no experience to computer software expert)
- Previous work experience including self-paced, solitary work; working with a partner; working as part of a team; supervising others
- Language fluency in English, ASL, or a language other than English
Additional Information
Employment Status: Union - IAFF - Regular Full-Time. Salary Information: $82,184.04 - $124,438.44 annually (2024 rates). This position requires completion of a Police Information Check. Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Job will be posted until August 20, 2025 at 11:59 pm PST.
