Are you a dual ticketed Firefighter (NFPA 1001 Level 1 & 2) and Primary Care Paramedic? Or a career oriented Primary Care Paramedic who wants to expand their skills and enter the field of Firefighting? Then keep reading, because we have the perfect job for you!

The Kitimat Fire and Ambulance Department is the only dual service department in the Province, providing both fire fighting and paramedic services to the community.

The Recruitment Weekend takes place over 4 consecutive days (just one trip to Kitimat) and includes the following:

  • Interview
  • Physical Fitness (medical exam, fitness and agility test)
  • Aptitude Test (mechanical and paramedic)

NEW: The District will provide a partial travel reimbursement subsidy for those invited to attend the recruitment weekend.  For those hired, we also provide relocation assistance and a twelve-month rental subsidy in accordance with our hiring policy.

Located in Northwest BC, Kitimat is home to just over 8,000 residents, with a stable tax base and is experiencing growth from increased levels of industrial, residential, and commercial development.  We seek individuals who are collaborative, work with integrity and respect, and uphold professional standards when it comes to the services we provide to our residents.  We are surrounded by mountains, rivers, oceans and parks and our staff are able to enjoy a work-life balance with backyard access to many outdoor recreational activities such as biking, hiking, golf, skiing, boating and fishing. The Terrace-Kitimat Regional Airport is a 40-minute drive away with multiple daily direct flights to Vancouver, Calgary and Prince George, perfect for a weekend getaway.

As a Firefighter/Paramedic, your primary functions are fire/rescue, pre-hospital emergency medical care, inspection/fire prevention and daily maintenance of the fire hall and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • NFPA 1001 Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualification Level I & II
  • Primary Care Paramedic certification
  • BC Class 3 & 4 Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement
  • Ability to obtain Security Clearance and Police Information and Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Work experience related to firefighting and/or pre-hospital care
  • Post-secondary education
  • IV endorsement

Candidates with their Primary Care Paramedic certification and the ability to obtain NFPA 1001 Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualification Level I & II are encouraged to apply.

Additional Information

Wages are paid in accordance with the Collective Agreement and include wage parity to the City of Vancouver.  Starting wage for this position is $37.63 and increases upon years of service to a maximum of $56.98.  A Captains rate is $67.55.  These are the 2024 wages.
