Description

Kitimat District is hiring for the role of Firefighter/Paramedic on a regular, full-time basis. The Fire and Ambulance Department of Kitimat is unique within the province, offering both firefighting and paramedic services.

Located in Northwest BC, Kitimat has over 8,000 residents and is witnessing growth due to increased industrial, residential, and commercial development. We are searching for individuals who are team players, value integrity and respect, and uphold professional standards in serving our community.

We are surrounded by mountains, rivers, oceans, and parks, providing numerous recreational activities such as biking, hiking, golfing, skiing, boating, and fishing. The Terrace-Kitimat Regional Airport, a 40-minute drive away, offers several daily direct flights to Vancouver, Calgary, and Prince George.

Duties and Responsibilities

In the role of a Firefighter/Paramedic, you'll be responsible for fire and rescue operations, pre-hospital emergency medical care, inspection and fire prevention, along with routine maintenance of the fire hall and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma

• Primary Care Paramedic certification (or EMR certification with the potential to attain Primary Care Paramedic certification)

• NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter Professional Qualification Level I & II

• BC Class 3 & 4 Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement

• Capability to gain Security Clearance and Police Information and Vulnerable Sector Check

Please note: Partial travel reimbursement will be offered to those invited for the recruitment weekend. Successful candidates will also be given relocation assistance and a twelve-month rental subsidy as per our hiring policy.

The recruitment process spans across four consecutive days (only one trip to Kitimat needed), and includes:

• Interviews

• Physical Fitness Evaluation (including medical examination, fitness, and agility tests)

• Aptitude Assessment (covering mechanical and paramedic skills)
