Description

The City of Brandon is currently accepting applications from qualified firefighters who are interested in applying for the Brandon Fire and Emergency Services Firefighter/Paramedics Short List.

Duties and Responsibilities

 Responds to fire alarms to combat, control, and extinguish fires and to perform the necessary duties related to fire fighting such as ventilation, search and rescue, overhaul and salvage;

 Responds to emergency calls for medical assistance and performs emergency medical duties at the PCP level as per Manitoba Health Guidelines and Protocols and/or Department standards;

 Receives incoming emergency and business calls and assists in the logging of information and dispatching of appropriate personnel and equipment as per General Operating Guidelines or as directed;

 Attends all In-House training sessions to maintain a level of competence and certification satisfactory to meet all Fire Department standards and participates in external training sessions as directed and required;

 Maintains records and prepares forms and reports required through the delivery of the emergency services;

 Cleans, operates, and maintains fire, rescue, and ambulance vehicles, equipment, personal protective gear, and all other related apparatus to Department standards;

 Performs housekeeping and routine maintenance tasks of emergency services facilities and grounds as required or assigned;

 Performs public fire education and fire prevention duties as directed;

 Performs all other duties as assigned or required.

Minimum Qualifications

 Grade 12, G.E.D. , or Mature High School Diploma;

 Successfully completed the following courses or equivalent courses (mandatory):
∗ Firefighting Practices-Level 1 and 2 (NFPA 1001) - accredited version;

Primary Care Paramedic (PCP); Rescue Practices;

Fire Apparatus/Operator (NFPA 1002); Hazardous Materials Awareness (NFPA 472);

Hazardous Materials Operations (NFPA 472),

Fire Life Safety Educator (NFPA 1035);

 Holds a Certificate in Public Fire Paramedic Program or equivalency;

 Holds and maintain a valid Class 4 with Air Province of Manitoba Driver’s License;
 Hold and maintain a Province of Manitoba Health Ambulance License.

provide the candidates with an understanding of the level of expertise required in this
position.
