Description
Reporting to the Deputy Fire Chief, the Firefighter II position will support the delivery of effective emergency response and community risk reduction services for the Municipality of Jasper. This role contributes to protecting life, property, and the environment by supporting safe, coordinated emergency responses and helping maintain a high level of operational readiness within the fire department. In addition, the Firefighter II plays a key role in advancing prevention, public education, and community resilience initiatives. The position supports the department’s ability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from a wide range of incidents by assisting with training, equipment readiness, and public safety programming.
This position will begin on May 1, 2026, with an expected end date of September 30, 2026.
Duties and Responsibilities
Emergency Response
- Responds to a variety of emergency incidents, including fires, vehicle collisions, rescues, dangerous goods and medical calls.
- Operates tools, equipment, and vehicles safely in high-risk and time-sensitive situations.
- Demonstrates sound judgment and adaptability when following direction in complex incidents.
- Maintains personal readiness to respond during scheduled shift hours, including being prepared to deploy at short notice when required.
Prevention, Public Education, and Community Engagement
- Supports FireSmart home and neighbourhood assessments.
- Assists in delivering public education programs related to fire and injury prevention.
- Participates in community outreach activities, demonstrations, and events.
- Represents the fire department in a professional and approachable manner.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fire department members and other stakeholders.
Operational Readiness and Equipment Management
- Assists with Wildland Urban Interface mitigation efforts.
- Conducts regular inspections of vehicles, tools, and personal protective equipment.
- Maintains the cleanliness and organization of the fire station and apparatus.
Training, Development, and Team Support
- Participates in training exercises to maintain and improve skills.
- Assists in delivering training sessions and supporting new or developing members.
- Shares knowledge and guides in a constructive and supportive manner.
- Demonstrates a positive attitude that supports morale and teamwork.
- Accepts feedback and continuously works to improve performance.
Minimum Qualifications

Required
- NFPA 470/472/1072 Haz-Mat Responder – Awareness and Operational Level
- NFPA 1001 Firefighter - Level 1
- NFPA 1051 Wildland Firefighter
- ICS Canada - I-100
- Intermediate First Aid with Health Care Provider (HCP) or CPR Level Certification
- Possess a valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License with “Q” air brake endorsement
- Thorough knowledge of fire department policies, procedures, and guidelines
- Must be physically capable of successfully completing the department’s in‑house physical abilities test
