Firefighter – Halifax Stanfield International Airport – Goff’s, Nova Scotia – 2026

Reporting to a Platoon Chief, this position will participate in a training and development program to become a qualified Aircraft Rescue Firefighter (ARFF) at Halifax Stanfield International Airport. ARFF are responsible for providing specialized aircraft rescue firefighting and to ensure protection of the airport community and traveling public. ARFF are also responsible for providing medical first response support to the traveling public and airport community. Key activities include response to aircraft incidents, medical first response, fuel spill mitigation, fire prevention inspections and maintenance of equipment.

DUTIES:

NOTE:

These positions will be assigned to a Platoon, on an as required bases, to maintain Platoon complements of eight (8). Should a permanent vacancy occur on a Platoon, based on ranking from this competitive process, the senior Firefighter shall be permanently assigned a position on a Platoon

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Successful completion of secondary school or equivalent
• NFPA 1001 (Level 1 & 2) standard certification
• Minimum 5 years experience as a Firefighter
• Current Medical First Responder certification
• Valid Class 3 driver’s license with Air Brake Endorsement
• Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team
• Demonstrated ability to operate in stressful situations
• Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing
• Demonstrated ability to make decisions
• Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new skills and knowledge

Final Candidates will be required to successfully obtain/complete:

• Medical Clearance
• Physical Fitness Test
• Restricted Area Identification Card
• Airside Vehicle Operators Permit and Radio License
• CARs 323.14 – Personnel Training for ARFF
• Passport
• NFPA 1003 certification if not certified prior to candidate vetting

Note:

• Airport Firefighting experience, with NFPA 1003 certification, will be considered an asset
• An eligibility list will be established as a result of this competition

FONCTIONS :

Relevant d’un·e chef·fe de peloton, la personne titulaire de ce poste suivra une formation et un programme de perfectionnement pour devenir qualifiée à titre de membre de l’équipe de sauvetage et de lutte contre les incendies d’aéronefs à l’aéroport international Halifax Stanfield. Il incombe aux membres de cette équipe d’effectuer des sauvetages et de lutter contre les incendies d’aéronefs de manière spécialisée ainsi que d’assurer la protection de la communauté aéroportuaire et des voyageur·se·s. Ils sont également responsables de prodiguer des premiers soins aux membres de la communauté aéroportuaire et aux personnes qui voyagent. Leurs principales responsabilités comprennent l’intervention lors d’incidents impliquant des aéronefs ou en cas de déversement de carburant, les premiers soins, les inspections pour prévenir les incendies ainsi que l’entretien de l’équipement.

REMARQUE :

Ces postes seront affectés à un peloton, selon les besoins, afin de maintenir un effectif de huit (8) pompier·ère·s par peloton. Advenant une vacance permanente au sein d’un peloton, le·la pompier·ère ayant le plus d’ancienneté, selon le classement établi à l’issue du présent processus de sélection, sera affecté·e de façon permanente à ce peloton.

QUALIFICATION PROFESSIONNELLE :

• Être titulaire d’un diplôme d’études secondaires ou d’un diplôme équivalent.
• Avoir obtenu la certification standard NFPA 1001 (niveau 1 et 2).
• Avoir au moins cinq ans d’expérience en tant que pompier·ère.
• Détenir une certification à jour de premier·ère répondant·e.
• Avoir un permis de conduire de classe 3 avec la mention pour les freins à air.
• Pouvoir travailler en équipe.
• Être capable de fonctionner dans des situations stressantes.
• Être en mesure de communiquer de vive voix et par écrit.
• Être capable de prendre des décisions.
• Être capable d’apprendre et de mettre en pratique de nouvelles compétences et connaissances.

Les personnes retenues devront obtenir ou effectuer :

• Un certificat de santé; 
• Une épreuve d’aptitude physique;
• Une carte d’identité de zone réglementée;
• Un permis d’exploitation de véhicules côté piste et un certificat d’opérateur·trice de radio;
• La formation CARs 323.14 (formation du personnel pour sauvetage et lutte contre les incendies d’aéronefs [SLIA]);
• Un passeport;
• La certification 1003 de la NFPA, si elle n’a pas été obtenue avant l’évaluation des candidatures.

Remarque :

• Une expérience à titre de pompier d’aéroport, accompagnée de la certification 1003 de la NFPA, sera considérée comme un atout.
• Une liste d’admissibilité sera établie à la suite de ce concours.Ce poste est affiché à l’interne et à l’externe.
