Description
The Canadian Armed Forces is seeking experienced and qualified firefighters to join the Department of National Defence. As a firefighter, you will be responsible for responding to emergency situations, conducting rescue operations, providing medical care, and participating in public education activities. You will also be responsible for inspecting and maintaining firefighting equipment and ensuring readiness for emergency response through regular training and drills.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responding to emergency situations, including fires, medical emergencies, and hazardous material incidents.
- Conducting rescue operations in various environments.
- Providing medical care to injured individuals.
- Participating in public education and outreach activities.
- Inspecting and maintaining firefighting equipment.
- Conducting fire safety inspections and enforcing fire codes.
- Participating in regular training and drills to maintain readiness.
- Collaborating with other emergency services and agencies.
Minimum Qualifications
- Canadian Citizen
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Valid driver's license
- Successful completion of a recognized Firefighter Training Program
- NFPA 1001 Level I and II certification
- Valid CPR and First Aid certification
- Experience in firefighting, emergency response, or related field
- Ability to pass a physical fitness test
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Willingness to work in various locations and environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with marine firefighting operations
- Experience with hazardous materials response
- Advanced medical training, such as EMT or paramedic certification
- Experience in public education and outreach
- Bilingual proficiency in English and French
- Experience working in a military or paramilitary environment
