Description
The City of Iqaluit is looking for an experienced individual to join our growing team as a Firefighter / Emergency Medical Responder. This full-time, permanent position offers a competitive salary of $42.40 per hour, with an average of 42 hours per week, and includes a settlement allowance of $20,907.43 annually. The successful candidate will be part of a team committed to community service, utilizing the latest fire suppression technologies and emergency medical care practices.
Duties and Responsibilities

- Respond to fire/rescue incidents and provide pre-hospital emergency medical care.
- Engage in fire prevention and public education initiatives.
- Conduct fire inspections and other assigned duties.
- Perform minor maintenance of apparatus, small equipment, and facilities.
- Manage call taking and dispatching for emergency and non-emergency personnel.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Certification
- Current CPR BLS
- NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level I
- NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level II
- NFPA 472 or 1072 Hazardous Materials Operations
- Valid Class 3 Driver's License
- Air brake endorsement
- Canadian Citizenship or Landed Immigrant Status
- Proof of Grade 12, equivalent or better
- Driver’s Abstract with no more than six points in the last three years
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector (within last 6 months)
- Ability to operate communications equipment
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education completion
- Apprenticeship or trade certification
- PCP or ACP certification
- NFPA 1002 Fire Apparatus Driver Operator (recommended)
- Proven ability to work in a team environment
- Volunteer work in the community
- Demonstrated experience as a firefighter
- Knowledge of City of Iqaluit's geography, including streets and hazards
- Skilled in operating and maintaining heavy equipment and/or commercial vehicles
- Ability to operate communications equipment
