Description

The City of Iqaluit is looking for an experienced individual to join our growing team as a Firefighter / Emergency Medical Responder. This full-time, permanent position offers a salary of $43.25 per hour, with an average of 42 hours per week and an annual settlement allowance of $20,907.43. The Iqaluit Fire Department is establishing a Firefighter Eligibility Pool, and candidates are encouraged to apply, especially those who are community-minded and dedicated to improving public safety.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Fire/rescue response and pre-hospital emergency medical care.
  • Fire prevention, public education, and fire inspection.
  • Perform minor maintenance of apparatus, small equipment, buildings, and grounds.
  • Call taking and dispatching appropriate emergency and non-emergency personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Certification.
  • Current CPR HCP.
  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level I.
  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level II.
  • NFPA 472 or 1072 Hazardous Materials Operations.
  • Valid Class 3 Driver's License with air brake endorsement.
  • Canadian Citizenship or Landed Immigrant Status.
  • Proof of Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Driver’s Abstract reflective of no more than six points within the last three years.
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector (within last 6 months).
  • Ability to operate communications equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education completion.
  • Apprenticeship or trade certification.
  • PCP or ACP certification.
  • NFPA 1002 Fire Apparatus Driver Operator (recommended).
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment.
  • Volunteer work in the community.
  • Demonstrated experience as a firefighter.
  • Knowledge of City of Iqaluit - geography, location of streets/addresses, major buildings, and hazards.
  • Skilled in operating and maintaining heavy equipment and/or commercial vehicles.
  • Skilled in the use and operation of hand tools, power tools, and portable equipment.
  • Ability to operate communications equipment.

  • Salary: $43.25/hr.
  • Settlement Allowance: $20,907.43 annually.
  • This position works 4 days on and 4 days off, with two day and two night shifts.
  • The City of Iqaluit provides an excellent benefits package.

  • The successful candidates must submit a Criminal Record Check and an acceptable Driver’s Abstract.
