Opportunity to be placed on an eligibility list to join our Firehall. Applicants may be put on an eligibility list for up to one (1) year.

Regina Airport Authority (RAA) manages and oversees the Regina International Airport. We are the 16th busiest Airport in Canada and a not-for-profit organization that operates under a long-term lease with the Federal Government. The RAA has a mandate to operate a safe and secure airport, while looking to grow for the greater benefit of the community.

RAA is looking to establish an eligibility list for up to one (1) year for the position of Firefighter. The eligibility list will be taken into consideration for future Firefighter positions that may be posted.

Upon screening of candidates, a date will be scheduled for the physical abilities test and successful applicants will be invited to attend.

Position Description Summary

Firefighters are responsible for firefighting, all required regulated firefighter duties and emergency medical response. The role is responsible for rapidly and safely performing duties in hazardous environments and emergency conditions. The primary objective is to save lives, by providing a fire-free egress route for the evacuation of passengers and crew following an aircraft accident. A secondary responsibility is to preserve property and evidence. Other duties include daily checks and light maintenance of equipment, facilities and fire trucks, as well as educating the public on fire prevention and safety.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • While promoting safety awareness, perform all duties with an ownership attitude in compliance with corporate policies and procedures.
  • Assist with ensuring appropriate incident command response procedures are carried out in the event of an emergency.
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with the company’s Mission, Vision, and Corporate Values.
  • Respond to operational emergency situations during and after standard hours of work for the purposes of resolving immediate concerns to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the airport.
  • Participate in ongoing internal emergency response training.
  • Operate emergency response equipment and perform special techniques in the suppression of fires and to preserve life and property.
  • Respond to after-hours calls as required.
  • Perform minor preventative daily maintenance on fire hall related vehicles, equipment and buildings related to crash, fire and regulated functions.
  • Participate in ongoing theory and the practical firefighter training program in accordance with the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) and appropriate training courses.
  • Support the development and implementation of fire safety guidelines and evacuation plans for corporate owned buildings and structures.
  • Support and promote fire prevention initiatives.
  • Participate in ongoing Firefighter Emergency Response Service vehicle familiarization training.
  • Participate in cross training initiatives with outside agencies.
  • Administer the fire inspection program.
  • Track aircraft movement statistics and complete monthly reporting.
  • Perform Airfield Compliance Plan (ACP) Level 1 Inspections.
  • Support the Airport Vehicle Operations Permit (AVOP) program and the Airport Traffic Directive Program.
  • Administer the hot work and red tag permit programs.
  • Annually participate and complete fitness testing within prescribed standards.
  • Provide feedback and follow Standard Operating Guidelines and Procedures.
  • Administer testing and maintenance of fire suppression systems and alarms; maintain accurate records.
  • Assist with annual foam and dry chemical tests required by CARs and file related documents.
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).
  • Provide medical response when requested.
  • Operate emergency response equipment used in fire suppression.
  • Respond to wildlife control requests.
  • Participate in mutual-aid training initiatives.
  • Support fire and occupational safety and heath (OSH) inspections of corporate owned buildings.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance Audits as assigned.
  • Ensure safe storage of supplies respecting WHMIS and Federal Halocarbon Regulations.
  • Contribute to and support corporate events, initiatives, and internal committees.
  • Participate in regulatory and corporate prescribed training and development activities.
  • Understand and comply with all Corporate Policies and Procedures.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge, skill, and ability to carry out all functions required by the Canadian Aviation Regulations, Part III, which consists of: 303 Aircraft Fire Fighting at Canadian Airports and Aerodromes; 323 Aerodrome and Airport Standards Respecting Aircraft Fire Fighting at Aerodromes and Airports; 343 Advisory Document for Regulations and Standards.
  • Knowledge of methods, techniques and practices related to the maintenance and inspection of operational equipment used in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of fire detection, alarm, and fire suppressions systems.
  • Knowledge of the fire inspection process and the ability to monitor and oversee inspections of buildings and property.
  • Working knowledge of the Canadian Transport Emergency Centre (CANUTEC).
  • Ability to operate emergency response vehicles and related equipment.
  • Counselling skills in stressful and pressured situations.
  • Knowledge in exercise design, process, development, and implementation.
  • Knowledge of command-and-control techniques.
  • Knowledge of emergency and firefighting techniques and methods.
  • Critical and logical thinking skills, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts.
  • Computer literate with Microsoft based applications.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications/Conditions of Employment

General Requirements

  • Recognized post-secondary diploma equating from 2 and up to 3 years of study and 18 months of job-related training and experience; or 48- 60 months of job related training and experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience would be considered.

Class 2 Firefighter (Entry Level)

  • IFSAC or ProBoard Certification to NFPA 1001 Level 1 and 2
  • Standard First Aid and CPR ‘C’
  • Valid Class 3 Driver’s License with ‘A’ Endorsement
  • Incident Command System (ICS) 100

Class 1 Firefighter (Fully Qualified)

  • Qualifications of Class 2 Firefighter
  • IFSAC or ProBoard Certification to NFPA 1002 (ARFF Preferred)
  • IFSAC or ProBoard Certification to NFPA 1003
  • IFSAC or ProBoard Certification to NFPA 1031 Level 1 is desired
  • Current Medical First Responders I/AED SK certification
  • Minimum of 2-4 years’ airport firefighting experience
  • Possession of Industry Canada Restricted Operator Certificate with Aeronautical Qualification

Conditions of Employment

  • No previous criminal background for which a pardon has not been granted.
  • A clear pre-employment National Criminal Record through Regina Airport Authority’s background screening process.
  • Ability to secure and maintain a Transportation Security Clearance, Airside Vehicle Operators Permit (AVOP) and an Industry Canada Aeronautical Radio Operators Certificate within the prescribed employment probationary period.
  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment Physical Fitness Program.
  • Assessed as Fit for Work through the pre-employment medical examination.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 3 driver’s license with an air brake endorsement or equivalent with a clean driver’s abstract. Candidates with a Class 3 learners permit will be considered based on experience.

As per the current collective bargaining agreement:

Band: 7

Rate of Pay: $42.73 - $46.19 per hour.
