Description

A career with the Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue Services is both challenging and rewarding. This permanent full-time position requires a high level of dedicated service to the community, with responsibilities including responding to fire and medical emergencies, performing rescues, and providing public safety education. Candidates must be physically fit and willing to engage in extensive training and maintenance of fire equipment and stations. The position is probationary for twelve months and will require adherence to all necessary competencies and professionalism.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain physical fitness and all required certifications
  • Follow written and verbal instructions in English
  • Respond to emergencies to perform rescues and provide patient care
  • Provide public assistance and educate the public about fire prevention
  • Assist with fire inspections and investigations
  • Maintain fire apparatus, equipment, and fire stations
  • Train extensively and develop pre-emergency plans

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Over 18 years of age and legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Secondary school graduation diploma or equivalent
  • Valid standard first aid certificate and CPR Basic Rescuer Certificate (Level C)
  • NFPA 1001 Level 1 and 2 accredited certification or equivalent experience
  • Successful completion of medical and physical assessments as required
  • Community College or University education in related fields is an asset
  • Previous firefighting or emergency services experience is an asset

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in firefighting or skilled trades
  • Community involvement and volunteer experience

Additional Information:

  • Annual salary of $77,874 plus benefits after a 90-day probationary period
  • Work hours: 24-hour shifts averaging 42 hours per week
  • Background check and valid Ontario driver’s licence required
  • Testing must be completed by October 25, 2026
