Duties and Responsibilities
The Town is seeking to fill the full-time permanent position as a 50% firefighter with the La Ronge Regional Fire Department and a 50% operator at the La Ronge Barber Field Airport. During the summer, the successful candidate will respond to structural and wildland fires, motor vehicles accidents, water rescues and other calls in the Lac La Ronge Region, and will be responsible for daily maintenance at the fire hall, assisting with training, inspections and fire prevention programs and events. In the winter, the incumbent will assist with the operation and maintenance of the airport as defined by Transport Canada as a Certified Airport in accordance with the Canadian Aviation Regulations and TP312 Standards. Duties at the airport will include inspections, labour, and repairs of all airside and groundside surfaces, equipment, and facilities; maintenance on runways, taxiways, aprons, airport roads and all airfield lighting systems; and participation in wildlife management and emergency response. The position requires the operation of heavy-duty equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
The individual will be expected to work year-round in a variety of weather conditions, and will be required to assume on-call duty rotation. Qualifications for the position include: NFPA 1001 - Level 2, and NFPA 1072 - Operations Level. As a condition of employment, the individual must: be willing to live within 10km of the Town’s Fire Hall or be willing to relocate within the defined proximity; be medically suitable for the position of firefighter as per NFPA 1582 standards; have 3 years operating heavy equipment, and possess a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 drivers license with Air Brake Endorsement; as well as maintain a valid First Aid/CPR certification.
