Description

Firefighters are responsible for the provision of fire suppression, fire protection, rescue, fire safety inspections and enforcement, educational fire/safety awareness programs and environmental protection services including toxic roundup and response to toxic spills. In collaboration with the Captain provides input into Town’s disaster planning.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level 1 and 2 (IFSAC and/or Proboard)
  • NFPA 1002 with pump operator. (IFSAC and/or Proboard)
  • NFPA 472 or 1072 or 470 (Hazardous Materials Awareness (IFSAC and/or Proboard)
  • ICS 100 (200 Preferred) (IFSAC and/or Proboard)
  • Must be able to achieve Primary Care Paramedic (formerly EMT-A) certification within 2 years of start date with a minimum of Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) and be Alberta Coolege of paramedics registered and in good standing.
  • Valid Class 3 and 4 Alberta Driver’s License with air brakes endorsement, with no more than six demerits, no current suspensions or charges pending, to commence firefighting training duties.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional Specialty training i.e. pump or ladder operation, tech rescue etc…
  • Higher education (diploma/degree) is a definite asset, ie: Fire safety codes officer Our response model requires that our firefighters are available for off-duty page outs therefore
