Total Fire Solutions is currently seeking to fill a contract Fire System Technician position based out of Red Deer, AB throughout the summer/fall months with the potential for permanent full time position for the right candidate.
We are primarily a industrial service company that performs specialized fire protection services throughout the province. Our fire system division works on a wide variety of fire protection equipment such as fire pumps, fire hydrants, fixed and semi-fixed foam injection systems, bladder tanks and other mobile fire protection devices.
Overnight travel is required, accommodations and daily subsistence provided.
Potential for training to those with willingness to jump in and assist other TFS divisions and their service offerings.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of a Fire Systems Specialist, daily job tasks of the Fire System Technician may include the following:
Perform annual fire pump testing
Perform annual fire hydrant inspection, flushing and maintenance
Perform annual flushing operations of fixed and semi-fixed fire protection systems.
Perform annual fire hose testing
Perform tool, equipment and PPE inspections
Assist with minor field level repairs
Complete electronic app based data entry
Other duties as assigned
The ideal candidate would be a graduate of a Pre-Service Fire program with basic knowledge of firefighting tools & equipment and possess the following traits:
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and diagrams
Physically capable of the job demands (unrolling/rolling hoses, lifting up to 50lbs)
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Attention to detail
Safety mindset and ability to identify hazards
Minimum Qualifications
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
Minimum 18 years of age
Authorized to work in Canada and possess a valid SIN
Hold a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation
Be able to produce a satisfactory Drivers Abstract
Have the ability to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
Preferred Qualifications
Possess standard safety certifications - First Aid & H2S (training provided for the right candidate)
Previous fire service or related experience considered an asset
