Duties and Responsibilities

Provide research into the best practices related to the treatment of common injuries and health risks for emergency responders.

Act as a liaison between Alberta Health Services (AHS) Emergency Medical Services (EMS) crews and incident command.

Assess and document medical monitoring and emergency care provided for heat injuries and other medical issues specific to first responders.

Provide emergency medical care for first responders.

Develop expertise in the medical management of unique situations.

Emergency department rotations and team building with CFD Technical Rescue Teams.
Minimum Qualifications
-
A completed 2 year Advanced Care Paramedic certificate or diploma.

Current registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics as an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) with a minimum of 5 years of experience.

A valid Class 4 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits is required.

In addition, you must be able to obtain a valid Class 3 Driver's Licence with Q-endorsement prior to the first day of work.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all Fire Department, City of Calgary Staff, while building strong rapport with outside agencies.

You must have sound judgment and the ability to respond promptly in emergency situations.

Firefighting experience is an asset.

- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

Successful completion of a Physical Readiness Evaluation will be required.

An enhanced security clearance and pre-employment polygraph will be conducted at the candidate’s expense.

Successful completion of a pre-employment medical and fitness test.
