Our Protective Services department, under new leadership, is seeking a personable, energetic, and team-oriented Fire Prevention and Education Officer/Firefighter to join our team! Reporting to the Deputy Fire Chief, this unique position will provide leadership and direction in the development, management, implementation, and administration of all fire prevention and education programs and services to the growing community. This position will also be responsible for providing emergency response and fire suppression, ensuring the operational readiness of fire service. This position will also work alongside and provide guidance to the volunteer members both on and off the fire ground.

Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate must have a grade 12 diploma, as well as NFPA 1001 Levels I and II; Group B Level 1 certification as a Fire Safety Codes Officer (as prescribed by the Safety Codes Council); NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector Level 1; and a Class 5 driver’s license with “Q” endorsement. Candidates must have the designation of Standard First Aid, or higher with valid CPR and AED certification. The successful candidate must have five years of full-time experience with a fire department, or seven years active volunteer experience, ideally with 3 years’ experience in developing, implementing, and delivering fire prevention services. Strong knowledge of emergency response techniques and provincial acts and regulations relative to the activities of a fire service in the Province of Alberta. Experience working with Fire Pro 2 is a definite asset. All certifications shall be issued by IFSAC or Pro-Board. Demonstrated knowledge of the National Building and Fire Codes, Alberta Editions, and previous experience delivering public education programs to all age groups. It is essential that candidates demonstrate solid written and oral communication and public relations skills; and possess the ability to support, lead, and coach staff and volunteers to a maximize their time, talents and resources for effective and efficient service to external and internal customers. Must have proficient skills in MS Office Suite.

Prior to the commencement of employment, the successful candidate must provide a clear Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector and a drivers abstract that is satisfactory to the City.
