Description
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Fire Chief is responsible for the direction, management, and organization of the Smithers Fire Department. The Fire Chief maintains overall responsibility for the provision of community emergency fire services including prevention, rescue, and response. This position calls for an effective and experienced leader who has the ability to develop a diverse and cohesive team that can achieve exceptional results, build positive internal and external relationships, and has excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.
Minimum Qualifications
Essential Qualifications Include:
- Post secondary degree in a fire related discipline or a minimum of 10 years of firefighter experience, including 3 years as a Senior Officer.
- Completion of NFPA 1001 Level II, NFPA 1031 Level I, Incident Command System 200, Emergency Scene Management Level I, Incident Safety Officer Level I and Fire Instructor Level II.
- Completed or enrolled in a recognized Officer Training Program.
- Ability to pass a criminal records check.
- Live within or ability to move within the Town of Smithers fire protection boundary.
- Possess a valid Class 3 (preferred) or Class 5 (required) BC driver’s license, with air-brakes endorsement (required).
- Possess a valid First Responder Certification with the Emergency Medical Assistance Licensing Board.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
