Duties and Responsibilities

As an Emergency Response Technician, you will be responsible to respond to, and perform the duties associated with fire fighting, medical first response, hazardous material spill or release mitigation, confined space/high angle and cold water rescue. You will assist in the planning, coordination and direction of the fire prevention/protection program, confined space/high angle rescue service/hazardous material operation and environmental response for the Thermal Generation Plant and outlining facilities. You will operate, inspect and maintain all emergency response equipment to ensure the highest level of safety and compliancy with the latest codes and standards. You will carry out regular emergency response training for Plant employees and perform emergency response prevention activities and inspections as scheduled.

You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of your co-workers by observing and promoting the company’s Safety and Health Program. You will perform safety tours and preventative maintenance checks throughout the plant, focusing on emergency response/fixed fire protection systems, ensuring compliance with fire prevention/protection regulations, Provincial and Federal legislation and Insurance Underwriter’s Regulations. You will be responsible for any environmental aspects of the position and perform work in an environmentally responsible manner.­

Minimum Qualifications

ou are a high school graduate, holding certification for NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter Level II and Emergency Medical Responder/Technician. You possess certification for Awareness Level of NFPA 472, Standard for Professional Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials Incidents. Experience in confined space/high angle rescue operations and inspection/maintenance of fire alarm and fire suppression systems would be an asset. You have a minimum one-year experience in the field of emergency response and related work and have strong oral and written communication skills and be able to work effectively in a team environment.­ Other combinations of related education and experience may be considered.
