Are you passionate about providing first class services to the community? The City of Dawson Creek is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, strategic professional who shares the same passion, drive and determination as our already exceptional senior management team to join us as the Deputy Fire Chief (Term).

Duties and Responsibilities

Key work examples in this role include:
• Assist in coordinating and directing Fire Suppression and related emergency response duties.
• Plan and evaluate the overall activities and programs of the Training Division.
• Continue to recruit, develop, monitor, and supervise the department’s Auxiliary Firefighter Program.
• Develop and/or deliver training programs on any technical training subject.
• Develop and update Operational Guidelines for the department.
• Coordinates attendance and maintains training records for all Fire department members.
• Coordinates the operation, maintenance and repair for department apparatus and firefighter equipment.
• Supervises the department’s inventory control program.
• Respond to emergencies; establish command and direct incident operations.
• Perform support roles in the Emergency Operations Center as needed.
• Exercise a high degree of independent action, judgement, and initiative on operational and technical matters, problems, and decisions.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
• Legally entitled to work in Canada.
• Valid B.C. Driver’s License, Class 5 Licence.
• Clean driver’s abstract.
• Completion of NFPA 1001 Level ll .
• A completion of Grade 12 or recognized equivalent.
• A satisfactory completion of a Criminal Record Check.

• Well rounded knowledge of the procedures, methods, principles and practice involved in the administration of a fire department.

• Proven record of maintaining and continuing personal development.
• Well rounded knowledge of computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Desired Qualifications:
• NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications – Fire Officer II.
• NFPA 1521, Standard for Fire Department Safety Officer - Incident Safety Officer.
• NFPA 1041, Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications – Level II.
• Emergency Medical Assistant – First Responder Level-III.
• Considerable experience at the supervisory level in the fire service, preferably at the level of Captain or above.
• A completion of NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector Level II.
• A completion of NFPA 1033 Fire Investigations.
• A completion of NFPA 1035 Public Educator Level I.
• A completion of ICS 300.
• Current Class 3 Driver’s licence with Air Brake Endorsement.
• Competent to NFPA 1002.
