The job title says "part-time" but most County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service Part-Time (CGPRFS) members can work close to full-time hours if they want. You can also work part-time hours and pursue other employment in the area. It's the perfect way to gain diverse municipal firefighting experience to build your career AND explore life in our remarkable location.
The County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service is looking for talented and motivated individuals with a high level of integrity and a desire to serve our community.
Our part-time firefighters work alongside career firefighters and may also respond independently to simultaneous calls for service. In our diverse service, part-time firefighters respond to fires, rescues, medical aid, hazardous materials, and a host of other calls to aid the public at over 2,000 calls for service annually. Apart from daily shifts and emergency operations, our part-time firefighters also contribute countless hours of volunteer time in support of community activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum requirements to apply as a Part-Time Firefighter:
At least 18 years of age
Have a current, Class 3 Alberta Driver's License with airbrake endorsement and a history of safe driving
Possess a Grade 12 education
Pass RCMP Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
NFPA 1001 Level 1 and 2 certification (IFSAC and/or ProBoard)
NFPA 472 / 1072 Awareness and Operations certification (IFSAC and/or ProBoard)
AHS Recognized valid Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Medical First Responder, Advanced First Aid, or higher with valid Level C CPR
Incident Command System 100 Certificate
Pass a medical assessment with a County Regional Fire Service approved physician
Undergo a psychological assessment with a County Regional Fire Service approved psychologist

What We Expect: Positive, team-oriented attitude and an aptitude for physically demanding but rewarding work.
For new part-time recruits, (2 x 40 hour weeks completed Monday - Friday) for mandatory recruit training. For new part-time recruits, (7 x 12 hour) days mandatory recruit training.
Our part-time firefighters are trained to internationally recognized standards. The requirement to work independently means that our part-time firefighters are well-trained to perform their duties
PDT Equivalencies
University of Alberta Firefighter Fitness Testing will be accepted as an equivalent to the County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service Physical Demands Test if it has been successfully completed within 6 months of your application date.
The Ontario Fire Administration Inc (OFAI) Treadmill and Firefighter Physical Aptitude Test (FPAT) will be accepted as an equivalent to the County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service Physical Demands Test if it has been successfully completed within 6 months of your application date. If you possess a certificate of successful completion of these tests within the approved date range, please include them with your application documents.
During training, the pay is $25.46 per hour. Once passing the recruit period and becoming part of the union, compensation for part time firefighters is $34.20 per hour plus 6% vacation pay and a $1.25 shift differential for every hour worked on a 14 hour night shift. Part time firefighters are also eligible for a pro-rated health and wellness benefit in accordance with our collective agreement.
Part time firefighters come from all walks of life from school teachers, to tradesmen, to paramedics. Being a part time firefighter is rewarding, exciting and fun. Part-time members also get the first opportunity to apply for full-time positions!
