Description

The Township of Oro-Medonte is currently seeking an experienced fire professional, with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to fulfil the role of Chief Training Officer/Emergency Management Coordinator.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Chief Training Officer/Emergency Management Coordinator is responsible for the development of lesson plans, safety plans, and Township wide training activities and co-ordination for Fire Department staff.   The successful applicant shall be appointed as the Township’s Community Emergency Management Coordinator (CEMC); developing and organizing training for the Emergency Control Group Members (ECG); preparation and submission of annual compliance documentation and maintenance of the Emergency Control Centre (EOC).  In addition, the successful candidate shall develop, organize and monitor annual Firefighter recruitment programs including the evaluation and certification of all new Firefighter recruits.  The Chief Training Officer/Management Coordinator shall provide management leadership to the Fire Training Officer and participate in an on-call schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful applicant shall hold a post-secondary diploma combined with a minimum of five (5) years’ progressive experience as a Senior Fire Officer and/or as a Training Officer. Current certification in NFPA 1041 – Fire Service Instructor 1 & 2, NFPA 1001 – Firefighter Level II including NFPA 472 - Hazmat Operations; NFPA 1021 – Standard for Fire Officer Professional Fire Officer Level 1 and NFPA 1521 – Standard for Fire Department Safety Officer and Basic Emergency Management (BEM) are required, Community Emergency Management Certification (CEMC) would be considered an asset.  In addition, the requirement to hold and maintain certification in First Aid/CPR Level ‘C’, BLS & Oxygen Therapy along with a valid class DZ Driver’s licence with a satisfactory driving record is mandatory.  The successful applicant shall have a thorough and demonstrated knowledge of the principles of firefighting, fire suppression, apparatus and equipment and rescue operations.  In addition, they must be “competent” within the meaning of the Occupational Health & Safety Act with a thorough knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety standards governing the Township, excellent communication, problem solving, interpersonal, leadership skills and supervisory experience are also required.  The successful candidate must be able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check and Firefighter Medical Report satisfactory to the Township as a condition of employment.

The successful applicant must have experience working within a Volunteer Fire Department.  In addition, the successful candidate must hold and maintain a primary residence within thirty (30) kilometers the Township of Oro-Medonte boundaries.
