Description

An exciting opportunity to join the City of Pitt Meadows Fire and Rescue Service

These exciting positions offer the opportunity to contribute in a very direct and personal way to the fire department and the greater community. As members in the department, you will be expected to exemplify the core values and professional behaviors expected of our staff and will be a skilled firefighter, exceptional teammate, engaging communicator and outstanding ambassador for the City.

Successful candidates will be required to perform a variety of job functions including; fire suppression activities, assisting at medical incidents, mechanical and protective equipment maintenance, fire inspections, fire prevention education, community initiatives and other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum High School graduation or equivalent
  • Completion of NFPA 1001 with appropriate IFSAC or Pro Board Seals
  • Current and valid BC Emergency Medical Assistants Licensing Board (EMALB) License First Responder (FR) or higher with AED. We do not accept OFA licensing.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence (for automatic vehicles) without restrictions, with Air Brake endorsement and no suspensions within the last 5 years.
  • Not more than six (6) points on your safe driving record in the most recent 5 years at the time of the application closing date. Candidates must demonstrate safe and responsible driving behaviour.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Work experience related to firefighting such as auxiliary/volunteer firefighting, first aid attendant, paramedic, or forestry firefighting.
  • Completion of a Post-secondary education program (Certificate, Diploma, Associate Degree, or Degree).
  • Enrollment in or completion of a Trade Certification (Interprovincial Standards Red Seal).
  • Employment in a profession that demonstrates mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience volunteering and community involvement.
  • Fluent in other languages.
  • Additional fire-related courses. (eg. Hazmat Operations, NFPA 1002)
  • Work experience highlighting dependability, initiative and high work ethic.
  • An Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) or Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) Licence.
  • Ability to swim and related lifesaving and rescue certificates
  • Team participation and on-going commitment to physical activity.
  • Knowledge and ability to work effectively with computers, programs and software
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team and respectful environment

Additional Information

Special Requirements:

All candidates must be at least 19 years of age and eligible to legally work in Canada.

These positions will require the candidates to reside within the IAFF Local 4810 living boundaries (Living boundaries for firefighters are within Pitt Meadows or in Maple Ridge east to 256th Street).
