Minimum Qualifications
- Canadian Citizen or legal entitlement to work in Canada
- High school Grade 12 graduation with transcript
- Recognized First Responder Certificate

Possess a valid Class 3 Drivers license with an *acceptable driver’s abstract - personal driving record (*applicants cannot have more than six (6) points in one year or nine (9) points in 5 years. They can not have any alcohol-related offencesi.e. impaired driving or 215 suspensions and cannot have any suspensions caused by the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles)
- NFPA 1001 Level I and Level II, OR POC member of MRFS, OR successful completion of one (1) year in a career fire department
- 2+ years of full-time employment after high school or equivalent number of hours
- No conviction of a criminal offense related to the job duties of a firefighter (a Police Information Check with a vulnerable sector check will be required)
- Physically and psychologically suitable for the position of firefighter (meets NFPA 1582)
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree or Red Seal Diploma or 30 credits of post-secondary education
- Minimum of two (2) years in apprenticeship (transcripts required)
- Previous experience in Emergency or Military service
- Additional certification in fire courses such as technical rescue (rope, confined space, swift water, etc.) and Fire Service Instructor (FSI)
- Possession of higher-level first responder courses (EMR, PCP)
- Proficiency in swimming with certifications such as Bronze Cross, Medallion, and National Lifeguard Service (NLS)
- SCUBA certification is an asset
- Ablity to speak a second language is an asset
- Experience giving back to the community by volunteering and community activities
Additional Information
Recruitment Process and Timeline:
- April 22 - written exam
- May 10 & 11 - Physical and Skills Assessment
- May 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd – In person interviews
- Two ride-a-longs during the period of June 7-20 will be scheduled for those candidates that are moved forward in the recruitment process
- June 23-26 - Fire Chief Interviews for those candidates moved forward based on the results of the ride-a-longs
- July 16 & 17 - completion of medicals for those candidates moved forward in the recruitment process
- July 28 - August 4 - completion of reference checks and Police Information Check by the Human Resources Department for those candidates that moved forward in the recruitment process.
- August 11-15 - Written job offers for successful candidates
- September 2 - Approximate start date for successful candidates
- Successful candidates will be required to live within the lower mainland (between Chilliwack and Lions Bay)
