Description
Saint John Airport Inc. is hiring a full-time Airport Operations Specialist (AOS), who is a highly motivated individual and a strong team player. This is a unionized position with hourly pay set at $37.83 as per the Collective Agreement. The AOS/Mechanic will perform a variety of maintenance and repair functions for various facilities and equipment at the Saint John Airport, in addition to responding to airport emergencies as an Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighter (ARFF).
The successful candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining heavy and light equipment to remove snow, ice, and debris from airport surfaces, as well as performing repairs and maintenance on airport facilities. The candidate must complete firefighting and other training programs as required and maintain the necessary ARFF certification.

- Perform maintenance and repair functions on various facilities and equipment at Saint John Airport.
- Respond to airport emergencies as an Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighter (ARFF).
- Operate and maintain heavy and light equipment to remove snow, ice, and debris from airport surfaces.
- Operate and maintain standard and specialized apparatus and equipment required to respond to aircraft emergencies.
- Perform repairs and maintenance to airport facilities.
- Complete firefighting and other training programs as required by the employer.
- Maintain the required ARFF certification.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Province of NB driver’s license.
- Valid Red Seal or Province of NB journeyman’s license as a Mechanic equivalent to Truck and Trailer, Heavy Equipment, Automotive, Marine, etc.
- Achieve ARFF certification within a 6-month period from the date of hire and pass a practical physical fitness test for firefighters.
- Complete specialized training in airport systems as required.
- Willing to work shiftwork, including weekends and overtime.
- Meet Transport Canada Security clearance requirements.
- Agree to a criminal record check and pass an initial and continuing annual medical exam.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current firefighter certification such as NFPA 1001, Level 1 or related firefighting experience.
- NB Class 3E driver’s license.
- Experience operating dump trucks, snowplows, front end loaders, snow blowers, or similar heavy equipment.
