Saint John Airport Inc. is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Airport Operations Specialist (AOS). This is a unionized full-time position. Hours of work and rates of pay are as per the current Collective Agreement. We are looking for candidates who are highly motivated and strong team players. Reporting to the Safety and Emergency Response Supervisor, the AOS responds to Airport Emergencies as a trained Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighter (ARFF). In addition, the AOS performs a variety of the maintenance and repair functions at Saint John Airport. The successful candidate must complete Canadian Aviation Regulation (CARs) ARFF training and other training programs as required by the employer and must be able to act as emergency responder capable of implementing the emergency training in the field.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Respond to Airport Emergencies as a trained Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighter (ARFF)
- Operate and maintain standard and specialized apparatus and equipment required to respond to aircraft emergencies
- Operate heavy and light equipment to remove snow, ice, and other debris from airport surfaces
- Perform repairs and maintenance to airport facilities
- Complete specialized training in airport systems as required and perform functions such as, but not limited to, runway surface condition testing
- Act as emergency responder and implement emergency training in the field
Minimum Qualifications
- Holds a valid Province of NB driver’s license
- A current fire fighter certification such as NFPA 1001, Level 1 or related firefighting experience
- Able to achieve CARs ARFF certification within a 6-month period from the date of hire and must pass a practical physical fitness test for firefighters
- Complete specialized training in airport systems as required
- Must be willing to work shiftwork including weekend work and overtime
- Must meet Transport Canada Security clearance requirements
- Must agree to a criminal record check and pass an initial and continuing annual medical exam
Preferred Qualifications
- Possession of a valid NB Class 3E driver’s license
- Possession of CARs ARFF certification
- Hold a Valid Red Seal or Province of NB journeyman’s license as a tradesperson such as a plumber, carpenter, HVAC technician, etc. or equivalent experience (describe)
- Knowledge and experience in the safe operation of heavy equipment such as dump trucks, snowplows, and snow blowers would be an asset
- Relevant courses completed such as WHMIS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, First Aid, Industrial Safety, etc.

This is a unionized full-time position. Hours of work and rates of pay are as per the current Collective Agreement. Candidates will be evaluated on communication skills, interpersonal skills, teamwork, problem solving, initiative, enthusiasm, work ethic, adaptability, reliability, and attention to detail.
